Chaichoutes – Perhaps you already know about my personal Top 10!

You'll find it on the way from Asklepion to Zia. Just a few kilometers before Zia you see a fork.

The funny name probably comes from The shark owner's family, Chaihout is the name of the first resident of the abandoned village. The Armenians are called Chaihout. Many of the Armenians settled there during the Turkish occupation. In 1821 there were approximately 35 houses surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. During the Second World War many residents fled from the village. Kos city to Chaichoutes. The population multiplied. Due to this, a school was founded. In 1959, there were 40 students who sat at the school desks in that cute, small village.
In the 60s, however, many of the residents moved back to the city due to the lack of infrastructure. By the 80s, the village was already almost completely abandoned, and in 2007 the last resident left Chaichoutes.

What happened then?

Until 2012, the village was uninhabited and resembled a small ghost town. Until Alexis and Maria arrived! Alexis, originally from Athens, had the idea to bring new life to the abandoned place.
At first it was the idea of selling simple drinks, which quickly developed into the fixed idea:, a traditional oyster dish To open. Maria's relatives still had some land in Chaichoutes and the realization of the vision began.
No oyster was produced, but one was Nice little cafe/tavern with a lot of attention to detail and originality.

Chaichoutes is not connected to the local electricity grid. Everything is powered by its own solar energy. Not necessarily easy when you have to provide for guests. But Alexis and Maria are doing a great job. By now, Chaichoutes is no longer considered a secret tip among the locals. We already spent lovely evenings at Alexis’s place in the first year and I am very happy that Chaichoutes still exists.
Even though the whole thing has now been taken over by Giannis.

The menu is small but delicious and delicious, the atmosphere on the island is unique.
By the way, there is also a holiday home for rent on Airbnb.
Very cute and unique. My daughter immediately wanted to move in.

Du kannst in den Glockenturm hinauf gehen und die tolle Aussicht genießen. Falls es nicht zu heiß ist, lohnt sich auch the Mini Mountain Hike.
